If you don't want Bob to know where you are, simply defriend him (temporarily or permanently).

Bob's friends will not be able to see where you are unless you friend them and they friend you.
Well, that's great news, and thank you for clearing this up for me.

I know that any random person can add me to their list anyhow... so me being on some stranger's list maybe isn't a big deal... but it just seemed wrong to "hang it out there" if you know what I mean.

So all we're getting is location data on our friends lists for people who've added us also? That wasn't very intuitive from reading the first post here.

No worries, though, GW's still fun times 6 years later!

Edit: Meh, I liked gw without showing my location on the friend/guild list. I'm just a private kind of guy. I can see the usefulness of checking to make sure my pal's not involved in a mission or in FoW or something before I ask him for help... but i dunno.

I'm just not a "Here's where I am, everyone!!!" kind of guy.

There probablly isn't a toggle, huh? So the only way to disable this is to un-friend my friends? I don't wanna do that.

I hope the tonics don't have regular versions.

...and then the QQ about everyone farming them for shinies begins.

I hope the quest rewards are decent!

I've only seen this info posted on non-official sites. Nothing on the blog, nothing on the website. Was this information accidently leaked and quickly pulled out? Who exactly is Emabulator and what's their credibility?

@Sir Cusfreak: Ture, though you got to remember, they told in some interviews last year, that they plan to bring the whole Guild Wars Extended Experience thing to GW1 as well as to GW2, so no wonder they start to implement some of the features now.

I dunno, I'd say it's pretty easily inferred by the inclusion of the world "mutual"...it doesn't say that anyone who's friended you will be able to see your location, it says mutual friends can. So only people who you've friended as well will be able to see that info, as they'd be mutual friends.

I second this.
I also hope Anet decides that these new tonics are unable to be traded

I infer from the massively article that it'll be a different thing each of the 6 weeks, so Mercs one week, storage panes the next, char slots the next, campaigns the next etc.

So, Massively is putting this information out, and still I see nothing about it on the official site or blog.

Fansites shouldn't be beating you to the punch on this, ANet. I'm sure this wasn't a leak, persay, and it's not like it's a surprise that GW is reaching its sixth anniversary around this time, so I see no reason for official notices on the blog, website, or in-game to have been nonexistent up until now.

Rubi from Massively is credible enough.

Most people are able to quote their sources in the very least. Where are they pulling this information from?

Why? So people are stuck with an item they may not like just because you don't want anybody to potentially turn an unwanted item into money or something else they may want? Kinda selfish. If there really are 30 new tonics, you can bet that there are going to be a few duds. It will be like opening any other birthday gift and realizing that you got something not so interesting.

My sin got a Summit Giant Herder this morning. It was definitely wasn't as cool as some of the others. I'm kinda forced to keep him because I collect minis and it was one I didn't have, but that little guy would be sold in a heartbeat if I didn't collect the damn things.

Most likely the event will not start until about noon PDT today, which is in about ~35 mins from now.

Most likely, Anet gave Rubi that little tidbit to release. They do that sometimes.

And the link to the Massively article was tweeted by someone who works at Anet...

Not to excited bout the friends list deal.....Now I'll feel guilty for every guildy (can only hold 50...guild exceeds that) that knows I don't have them in FL because they won't be able to see where I am.........kinda puts the kibosh on GL's of large guilds.

QFT!

Rubi has gotten tips from ArenaNet plenty of times in the past. I highly doubt that she'd start lying to us now after all this time.
